Bryan Battle and Anthony Smith have already had a tough time heading into UFC 310 this Saturday.
At Friday’s official weigh-ins for the final UFC pay-per-view of 2024, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Battle and Smith were the only two fighters to miss weight on their first attempts.
Battle came in way over the welterweight limit for his fight with Randy Brown, registering at 175 pounds, which is four pounds heavy even including a one-pound allowance for non-title fights. Smith missed by a smaller margin, coming in at 207.5 pounds, 1.5 pounds over the limit for his bout with Dominick Reyes.
With all of the fighters showing up in the first hour of the two-hour weigh-in window as requested by the commission, that left Smith with an extra hour to prepare for a second attempt. Shortly before the end of the window, Smith stepped to the scale and successfully made weight at 205.5 pounds.
As for Battle, it is not yet known if his bout will proceed as a catchweight and, if so, what percentage of his purse will be forfeited to Brown as penalty.
Fortunately for the UFC, the rest of the weigh-ins went off without a hitch, including flyweight title fight headliners Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura both successfully stepping to the scale at 124.5 pounds. Pantoja seeks a third defense of his belt, while Asakura debuts with a championship opportunity after coming over from Japan’s RIZIN promotion, where he was a two-time bantamweight titleholder.
In the five-round co-main event, undefeated welterweights Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry successfully made weight, with both coming in at 171 pounds.
